There are lots of ways that we can improve the situation at school for our children with Type 1 Diabetes.
Personally, I think there should be several staff people trained to help young kids with the insulin pumps. It is easy to learn and quick to do. Support at school would make a huge difference to parents and really increase the quality of education.
There are other solutions too. It is likely impractical for such services to be offered at every school - but what about selecting one school in an urban center that would offer such supports? I'm sure parents would be willing to drive their kids quite a distance for this kind of help. Another idea might be for parents to come together in support groups, with each parent taking a turn to attend to school on a given day and help all the kids with Type 1 diabetes, instead of each parent or guardian having to do it on their own.
